Iridescent Outshine
Chapter Five
Harold and Edgar left the place where they had interrogated Bastien. Stella and Cecilia left the restaurant and met up with the boys on their way back to the inn. Back at the inn, Stella explained how a guy named Olivier introduced himself and tried to flirt with her mom. The boys were shocked and surprised and said that Olivier is the Iridescent Unicorn that they were looking for. It was no coincidence that Olivier chose to meet the girls at the restaurant. Because of this, Harold thought it was safer if they all stick together for now. There was no point in trying to locate Olivier in this desert town.
Remembering something that Bastien had said, Harold decides to wait until midnight to see if the Unicorn shows up at the small body of water in the middle of town.
It was during midnight when Harold and Edgar woke up to go to the center of the desert town. Unbeknownst to them, they were being watched by Olivier and Jules from one the roofs.
At the center of town, Harold and Edgar look around and only see a bright full moon. Olivier transforms into his Unicorn form and charges up his horn with an iridescent yellow Lightning Midrash. With his horn fully charged, he jumps down from the roof and pierces Harold through his right shoulder. This move is called Iridescent Lightning Charge.
Harold screams out in pain and Edgar panics not knowing what to do. Jules, taking advantage of the situation, also jumps down and punches Edgar with a blue Lightning Punch.
The speed of the punch knocked Edgar onto the ground. He rolls around and stands up. Looking at Harold bleeding, Edgar wants to run to his partner, but is intercepted by Jules. The two exchange multiple punches. Edgar has more defensive ability and Jules has more speed. All Edgar has to do is to tank the Lightning Punches from Jules and then grab both of Jules' hands. With Jules unable to punch, Edgar coats his forehead with Metal Midrash and headbutts his opponent several times. This move is called Metal Charge. Jules' nose is broken and blood comes pouring out of his nose.
Harold covers his right shoulder with his left hand and looks around for whoever that attacked him. He sets his eyes on the Unicorn in front of him. The Unicorn charges his horn again to prepare for another attack. Predicting the incoming attack, Harold tries to roll out of the way, but the Unicorn was too quick. The second Iridescent Lightning Charge pierces Harold's right shoulder even deeper. It actually went through his shoulder. Plenty of blood comes pouring out of the hole as soon as the Unicorn removes his horn. Using whatever strength he has leftover, Harold uses his left hand to throw a Ferocious Leaf Spellbomb to the face of the Unicorn. The Spellbomb explodes into green leaf particles. Then Harold transforms his head into a Wolf's head and bites the Unicorn neck with a Ferocious Leaf Fang. He bites down so hard that the Unicorn squeals in pain and transforms back into Olivier.
Olivier covers the side of his neck to prevent any more blood from leaking. He looks around and sees that Jules has been defeated. Feeling that the battle is close to being lost, Olivier turns around and sprints to the southwest of the desert town. Due to his agility, he was out of sight within seconds.
Harold wants to go after Olivier, but he is too injured and not fast enough to catch up. He asks Edgar to help cover the hole on his shoulder until his Natural Construct ability can fully recover his wound.
Due to all the noises from the fighting, the locals go out of their homes to see what the commotion was all about. They see a scene of a bloodied Harold and Edgar standing over a bloodied Jules who is beginning to regain consciousness.
Harold and Edgar, being police officers, try to explain to the locals that they and Jules fell while doing midnight errands. The locals, of course, do not believe it. No point in trying any more. And also no point in trying to interrogate Jules while being surrounded by sleepy locals. Because of this, the boys leave Jules alone and go back to the inn where they go to sleep to recover from their battle.
The following morning, Harold and Edgar explain their night to Stella and Cecilia who were horrified, shocked, and surprised.
"Are you okay, Harold?" Stella asked, walking up to him and checking out the spot where he was pierced last night.
"Yeah," Harold answered. "The wound is gone thanks to the regenerative ability of my Construct."
"Should we go after that Jules guy?" Cecilia asked. "He might be around town."
Harold shakes his head. "No, if he were still around, I don't think we'd get any more information out of him than we did Bastien."
"We saw the Unicorn go southwest," Edgar began. "I saw on the map that there's a forest there. Maybe he went that way to meet up with his team members?"
Harold thinks to himself for a bit. "Yeah, the other target is the Lustrous Goblin. According to Suzette, the Goblin is in charge of intelligence and the Unicorn is their assassin. Based on what Bastien told us, it seems to be true that the assassin is the Unicorn and he was the one to murdered the missing journalist."
"So," Stella said. "Should we go to the forest to look for the Goblin?"
"Yeah, and we know the group that the journalist was investigating. Fogbow Spectrum. Does anyone know what that group does?"
Edgar shakes his head.
"I do," Cecilia said. "It's a small bank that operates around a few Astro Orbs."
"A bank?" Harold said. "I guess it makes sense. My theory is that this bank was doing something illegal and was about to be exposed by the journalist, so they had him murdered."
"That sounds like a good theory." Edgar said. "It's our job to confirm it, then!"
"I'm thinking we should go now so the Unicorn doesn't get very far, but what about your paints, Lily?"
Stella looks at her mom and then goes back to Harold. "We can hold off on that for now. I mean, if we run into a paint store, then we'll buy it."
Harold smiles. "Alright, then! Everyone ready to go into the forest?"
Meanwhile, last night after the Unicorn was defeated by Harold. Olivier had run southwest to the forest. Due to his speed, he made it to the forest faster than the average person.
Inside the forest, he goes into a house and sees a person with lustrous hair sleeping. This person wakes up as soon as Olivier steps into the house.
"Is that you, Olivier?" asked the Lustrous person. "I'm assuming you didn't wake me up in the middle of the night because he succeeded. It's because you failed. Am I right?"
Olivier looks at the Lustrous person in shame.
